How to Make an Armature for Under $2.00!

doll and stand
  1. 12 gauge three-wire electrical wire (if you have a friend in home building most likely this will be free)

  2. Deckers pig rings (farm store, some hardware stores--this is used to keep pigs from rooting) approx $1.99 for a box of 100

  3. Special hog-ring pliers, approx $6.99

wires

Cut four pieces of wire as pictured. Measure about one inch above the stride. Arms need to be at bottom of the V for the arms for dolls like Shay.

wires with clips

Close wires as shown on the picutre with hog ring pliers and pig rings.

Another style of armature for dolls like Savannah.

with body

We use nylon fishing line 14 test doubled in the body. Put the armature inside the arm or leg and stuff tightly. Run glue around grove and pull fabric in tight. Let dry before moving arm or leg.
